First tablet to combine Windows 8.1 and 64 bit unveiled from HP

HP unveiled its newest tablet named as the new 64-bit ElitePad, describing a Windows 8.1 tablet empowered by the Bay Trail Chip of Intel, which will now go 64 bit.

This new ElitePad 1000 packs Windows 8.1 with 64 compatibility, also inside are a LTE/4G modem, which is pretty unusual for Windows tablet till day.

Hewlett Packard, HP, has bagged the place of being the first one to offer 64 bit in a tablet running Windows 8.1 and making use of the latest mobile processor from Intel.

HP made announcement of HP ElitePad 1000 just recently, which has been described as the upgraded and revamped version of the 64 bit HP ElitePad. The tablet can be bought in the month of March. The features you can grab hold of include a quad-core Bay Trail processor, 64 GB or 128 GB storage, Qualcomm Gobi 4G LTE and a high resolution display of 10.1 inch.

Dell, following the footsteps of HP, is touted to release the updated version of Venue tablets in the 64 bit mode soon.

Meanwhile, Windows tablets running on the newest processors from Intel, which have been redesigned, from brands like Dell, Lenovo. HP, Toshiba and Acer have run only on the 32-bit mode. The biggest and most obvious reason of shifting to the 64 bit slot was to provide increased memory, which goes ahead of the 4 GB limit, which is typical to a 32 bit application. But, there are other reasons being quoted as well.

The demand for 64 bit has seen ample momentum in recent times as IT organizations now wish to standardize on 64 bit apps and 64 bit images.

In the meantime, a handful of laptop-tablet hybrids which are Intel Haswell-based, like the Dell Venue 11 Pro and Surface Pro 2, run in the 64 bit version, but these are more closer to a laptop than a tablet. Also, the dimensions are bulkier for a tablet, thus drifting away the whole look and feel from a tablet.
The race of 64 bit devices entering the market has seen ample gain just after Apple made announcement of its 64 bit A7 processor that will be present in the iPad Air, iPhone 5 and iPad Mini Retina, which the company said in 2013.
