The leading security solutions vendor company Symantec has
recently discovered a new fraudulent campaign, which disguises itself as to be
sent from a legitimate Australian energy company to serve a crypto locker into
the victim’s computer.
This fraud campaign is sending out emails which appear to be
a legitimate electronic bill complete with a balance outstanding. The targeted
victims have to click on the link present on the bill to view their outstanding
bill. Once they do that they are directed to a URL where they have to enter the
CAPTCHA code that appears on the page. However, in reality this code doesn’t
change. Once the victim enters the code as shown, he/she will get directed to
next page containing link to download the bill.
This download file is actually the malicious code; the
crypto locker ‘Trojan.Cryptolocker’, which is what the attackers want victims
to believe. This virus is disguised with a PDF file icon. On running a deep
analysis of the virus, Symantec found out that virus is not the original crypto
locker and is just a copy. But on execution, it does encrypt the data of
compromised computer.
So how to stay protected? Simply install comprehensive
antivirus and internet protection software. It is also necessary that users
stay away from anything suspicious. Simply stay attentive and use reliable
security solutions, and if a need of help like Norton help, Avast help etc., is felt then connect to good support
companies like SupportBuddy, which provides reliable and effective tech support
like Avira tech support , PC support,
